how about a steam release

that would help with player count cause the game isnt bad it just need players
Hi @yamisniper thanks for the question. There are number of reasons why we have not yet gone to steam, most of which are summarized in one of my replies here.

How long is "briefly"? We don't exactly know but I'm willing to bet it would be longer than most anticipate. And there is no guarantee that going to steam is going to make up for the potential loss of players due to the time required to migrate. Not to mention Steam is well saturated with games and there's no guarantee on how much additional exposure we would gain.

Again, I would like to emphasize that going to Steam is possible at some point in the future. But right now we are electing to focus our resources on more immediate needs of the community to keep them as happy and healthy as possible. I can't stress enough how limited our development time is. We're literally a hand full of people working for very little pay to keep moving this game forward.

publishing this game on geforce now helps a lot and require minimum effort

and btw technically speaking since this game ran natively on macOS

it require only a few more tweak for tweak on the Ui/UX and you can make it run on iOS. + tvOS +ipadOS + visionOS right ? ( implementing the gamepad control native from apple is easy I supposed ? ) imagine you are the only real old school mmo available on iOS / tvOS

Also get a few streamers nmorpg to review it and gave some kinda free trial keys
If you think we haven't done this you'd be mistaken. Bigger streamers seem to not want to give us a chance. Which is understandable because they need to cover "what's hot" to keep the clicks coming in. If you have contact info and relationships built with any larger creators we'd love an introduction. We are here ready to be discovered.

raptor seem to try all kinds of games on youtube. im just worried how long can you keep serevrs up if money doesnt keepo coming in cause game dies cause of no population thats all im worried about : ( and you have a decetn old school mmo here. thats looks pretty good on the gfx side 2

i'd also consider buying it for a heavily discounted price (about 9.99 usd). from what i can tell and from what i've been told the trial is heavily restricted and constantly urges the trial user to purchase the full version.

without access to a review pool as large as Steam or greater and for a price of higher than 9.99 usd i'm simply afraid i can't make this purchase. my instincts tell me this is an IP that has been built around getting the player base to participate in micro-transactions and loot-box mechanics. i simply can't afford to be part of that, and i assume for those reasons i am not your target clientele.

Embers Adrift has no micro transactions, cash shop, nor predatory loot box mechanics. We have an optional subscription whose perks are detailed here. You can find additional information in our FAQ here.

I appreciate your reply, but you have only confirmed my instincts and your staff has gone to a great deal of trouble to subvert popular opinion regarding this IP by keeping it off Steam. I appreciate your candor, Undone. You've been more helpful than your colleagues.

Likely you're a pretty cool person, but my definition of predatory game mechanics extends to dangling possibilities of "full-access" over folks who cannot afford to commit only to barrage them with "in-group and supporter" benefits the moment they start writing checks to your company.

You've clearly stated your monetization practices while denying my claims based on popular opinion yet offer me nothing but the option of paying up front to access a small portion of a game then being roped into paying month by month for the full version if I want to retain access to my work and my accumulated resources thru playtime all while appearing nothing but professional. Bravo.

If and (perhaps more appropriately) when Embers and the team behind it go bottom-up I advise you continue your search for work in a similar field. Your resume and skills will do you good.

it's tru, yamisniper

from what i can tell after a short amount of research, Stormhaven's *entire* marketing strategy and business model revolve around paying influencers to push their product on their streams.

this is how I arrived here. The kind streamer that brought me here was pretty intensely trying to sell why the game was so great but was unable to answer any of his chat's questions other than "overall player population is low. game requires a payed subscription and upfront cost. trial is lacking and unavailable on Steam."

Overall it doesn't sound like this team's efforts are working out so well, but it *does* seem like they know how to really reward some in-need streamers enough to try to get everyone in their audience to "play along" to "give it a try" and "join in the fun"

all my research and now my own opinion leads me to this answer: I am not the target clientele for this project. This project is for mobile/gacha game lovers

At the end of the day we're an extremely small indie development team who is just trying to make a fun game at a fair price. You seem to be coming into this under the assumption that we are some evil corporation doing everything we can to extract money from our players which couldn't be further from the truth.

If you want to know how other people feel about the game you are more than welcome to join our discord and ask the community. You are also free to log into the game with no monetary commitment and form your own opinion on the matter. You will find no pressure from us to purchase the game. Try it, if you like it great, if not, also great. We appreciate you stopping by either way.

i will log into the free trial now and leave my feedback later

Thanks

imo game is far from ready for spoiled brats on steam.

Even mmo vets like myself have some issues with the game and have problems with motivation to play it, honestly.
Game needs alot of QoL and sound design updates to maintain at least mixed reviews on steam.

Younger folks simply won't tolerate such flaws and will bury this game under overwhelmingly negative in a month, despite the game being far from that.

taydris, you are massively uninformed. The game is most definitely not made for the mobile/gacha audience. I don't even understand how you could possibly think that with the info that is easily found out there.

As Undone has said, there are also zero.... ZERO ... microtransaction costs to this game. You will never see a pop-up message saying "hey, come look at our crown store blah blah ..."

You can play 1 of 3 ways:
1 - Free Trial: costs nothing but the download time. You get access to the beginning tier adventure zone free (its just a taste so you can see if you like the game). If you want to continue playing and see ALL the other zones, you need to choose option 2 or 3. You lose no progression by doing so.
2- 1-Time box fee with no Sub cost.; Limiting: you only can play 1 character but you get access to the entire game. Never an extra charge
3 - 1-Time box fee plus sub fee. Just like option 2 but you get perks for your sub (5 characters, please a few QoL things). Nothing that amounts to say ESOs crafting bag. You can also drop sub. Doing so, you choose one of your 5 characters to be your 'main' to play. If you want to switch to another character, you can sub for 1 month and then drop sub again, choose another char to main. etc.

The game does have its faults. But monetization is definitely not one of them.

Cause their is a far better chance that a lot more people would play the game
That might not be the case, it is a possiblity but, seeing the audience this game caters to, and rightfully so, I don't know if the younger steam population has the attention span to stick it out. These are just my anecdotal observations in the gaming world. Tho... I would love more people playing or giving this a try, hopefully the GM events and free trails do just that!

I am not so sure you're right about the age thing. I am quite old and most of my gaming friends are old or middle aged and nearly all them will only play steam games now days for various reasons.

I am not saying steam is going flood the game with players though, their still a lot of issues that put player off about it, a lot.
