Hi all, so I played for a few months after release but left for a few different reasons I'll outline below and was curious if much has changed about the things I didnt care for. I read through the patch notes but I was hoping some of you veterans could give me some feedback on your experience with the patches versus what the game was like at retail.
1. Combat was glacially slow Cooldowns were too long and it seemed to take forever to kill even blue con mobs. The animations felt clunky and at times watching combat felt like watching someone pour peanut butter out of a jar. I dont mind having slower combat if its strategic but the combat seemed unnecessarily slow. Even a 20% speed up would have added a little more excitement and sense of urgency.
2. Loot tables and variety were HORRID. I remember grouping up and doing some outdoor dungeon around level 12-15 (sorry I don't remember the exact level or zone names) but there were 4 or 5 of us killing 3 and 4 dot? yellow and red.. I think, don't remember what color was after yellow (again apologize for the vagueness.. trying to remember more specifics). point is while it was somewhat challenging for our group and a few of us died especially when we got unexpected adds and we slogged through it for a couple hours. The gear drops were horrible, most of it was the same or worse than the crafted gear I had and I think after a could hours I scored a shield that was SLIGHTLY better then the one I was carrying (which I crafted). In all the time I played I dont recall ever finding something Id call a "magic item" it was just some named piece of gear that had stats marginally better than something I could craft and the best crafted gear I could make was mediocre at best. When it came to loot.. there was imply nothing to get excited about. I never once got a piece of gear and felt like "wow that really made a difference".
3. Coin drops.. in the same battle above I scored significantly less coin than if I had just soloed 2 con yellow mobs for 2 hours. It was quite disappointing. While the XP gains were a little better I probably made half of what I would have made soloing. Grouping was kind of a pain as you had to just spam chat at the time. Is there any kind of LFG tool?
4. Complete lack of magic. I know they added some kind of ember based magic system which from what i understand is just buffs to existing abilities? or is it alchemy. Not real clear.. are they the same thing? How hard is it to gain the magic abilities and how hard is it to acquire whatever components are needed to cast these buffs?
5. Again.. complete lack of magic. Are there any plans to add some kind of caster class in the future? I know they had originally pegged it as a low fantasy game but it seems there are enough people for clamoring for some kind of casting classes that I've seen it mentioned in a few places without any confirmation. Any truth to this? If so any kind of timeline?
6. Lower end mob variety. Yes I know ..its low fantasy but its STILL a fantasy medieval game. Most of the things you killed up to the high teens were things you could walk out into the forest with a 30-30 or compound bow and hunt in real life. Bears, wolves deer and spiders.? and of course a variety of weird variations of human mobs (and LOL no I'm not implying I hunt humans) . Please tell me you've added some more variety. Killing diseased deer gets old REAL quick.
7. Soloing options. I KNOW its a group centric game but the simple reality is many of us are grown ups with jobs and cant sit down and dedicate 2-4 hours LFGing and then meeting up then running a dungeon hoping for better than mediocre loot (see #2) I know that added something called "solo loops"? Assuming they improved #2 I would never expect the same drops and gear as a good group in a good dungeon but its it at least reasonable than I could get on for an hour and make some progress? How are the solo loops?
8. travel.. simply out, too time consuming. The first time you travel anywhere you should have to run there .. but afterwards is there a quicker way to get to the general area? I remember there being some kind of statue or something??? You could use but you have to have ember or something to use them and I seem to remember it being hard to get.. again I was never real clear on this one so I could be way off base.
Again I want to stress its been a while since I played and most of these may have been addressed. So any advice would be appreciated even if its simply "this game isn't for you"
Thanks in advance
