I thought I would start a thread to help out new players by offering some tips. These are pretty basic, but many new players ask about these in chat. Please feel free to add some tips you know of to help out our newer players.
Tip 1: After killing something or if you need to run press the Z button to exit combat stance. You will regain stamina and hit points much faster and if you need to run you will move faster when out of your combat stance.
Tip 2: Press the C button or the little chair icon to sit. Again you will gain stamina and hit points back much faster while sitting.
Tip 3: If you die and need to find your bag, look over at your health and stamina bar where your character portrait would be. Inside your portrait you will see a white arrow. Follow that arrow right to your bag. Right click your bag to pick it up. Bonus tip try to rest at an Ember Ring to heal up fast before going after your bag. Bonus tip #2 You can right click in your portrait screen and you will be given the option to change your portrait..
Tip 4: When in town and at the bank you can right click on the money bar at the bottom of the bank screen to bring up the withdraw/deposit screen. Just use the slider to set the amount to either withdraw money or deposit it. Another bonus tip, the bank can be shared with all your characters so it's worth it to open more bank slots for extra storage and is a easy way to transfer money and items between characters.
Tip 5: If you see what looks like a small glowing bug on the ground and it runs from you as you approach, chase it down! You don't have to pick it up all you have to do is get over it and it will give you a temporary bonus that will help you in combat. The bonus depends on the color of the bug.
Tip 6: As you find Ember Rings they will glow blue when next to them on your map. A useful way to see where you are on the map!
Tip 7: Press the X key to change weapons quickly.
Tip 8: If you get lost in an Ember Vein just follow the ember pulse back to the entrance. The stronger and faster the pulse the closer you are to the entrance. Bonus tip for ember veins, to find them look for lightning in the sky. You will see lightning especially at night coming down from the sky and going directly towards the ember vein.
Tip 9: Look for Bulletin Boards. They are normally near ember rings. They give Task to do solo and reward excellent experience. Once Bulletin Boards are discovered they appear on your map. You do not have to go back to the same bulletin board to turn in a task, any of the boards in that zone will work.
Tip 10: To change chat, type /followed by letter of chat you want to talk in. Examples /w = World Chat, /s = Say Chat, /t = Trade, /z = Zone Chat, /gu = Guild Chat. Bonus tip is to link an item in chat hold the shift key while left clicking on the item. It will add the item with a mouse over information screen to your chat.
Tip 11: Damaged armor and weapons need to be repaired. If you let them go too long without repair, they become less efficient. To repair them look for an anvil, these can usually be found near crafting stations. Click on the anvil to make your repairs, this will cost you a small fee. Bonus tip, sell the things you don't want before you repair to reduce the cost of the repair.
Tip 12: You can have up to 3 crafting or gathering professions. The first one requires nothing more than starting the profession either by quest or by book. The second one requires you have your first crafting or gathering profession at level 6 before you can begin a second one. And finally, the third one requires that you have both your first and second crafting or gathering skills to level 12 before you can begin the third one. Bonus tip, what you are looking for is: wood looks like logs on the ground, metal looks like large stones or rocks, gems will be brightly colored stone normally small on the ground, plants are pretty visible and hides come from animals you either kill or can find their carcasses laying on the ground.
Tip 13: For you crafters out there you can deconstruct the items you make by clicking the deconstruct button at the top right of your crafting window. This will give you a small amount of experience towards crafting for each item you deconstruct. Bonus tip, you can sell your failed and deconstructed items at a vendor for some coin.
Tip 14: Try talking to all named NPC's! You never know who will offer a quest. Bonus tip, after hitting major leveling milestones, level 10, level 20, level 30 etc. etc. go back and talk to some of the earlier quest givers and NPC's they may have something they need you to do.
Tip 15: Once you have your Emberstone from the quest and have visited the different Monoliths located in each zone you can then teleport to different zones from a monolith but that is not all you can do, you can also open your map when next to a monolith and can then teleport to any ember rings you have visited within that zone. Just click on the teleport button underneath the ember ring icon on the map. This speeds up travel greatly! Just remember to keep your Emberstone charged up by killing Ashen Creatures.
Tip 16: When choosing a gathering profession the easiest to level is Forestry then Hunting and finally Prospecting. The reason being that there are multiple items to gather in Forestry so it levels very quickly. Hunting levels fairly quick due to you are killing creatures to skin constantly. With Prospecting there are only a couple of items to mine either metal or gemstones and they are usually not very many in a zone compared to the other two gathering skills. So always take the easiest to level first so you can get your second skill much faster. See tip 12.
