State of the Game: December

Welcome to the Embers Adrift newsletter. We now have our servers open every weekend for our pre-order players. Come help us test and shape the game on the weekends. Visit our website to pre-order and join the fun! We’ve also created an option to buy the game as a gift to others so if your friends and family have been waiting to join Embers Adrift you can gift them a game key. Along with our test weekends, alpha testers gain access to our test sessions with the devs every Wednesday night at 8pm CT, our alpha forums, and alpha discord where you can give feedback directly to the developers.

A lot happened in December. Let’s dive into our progress in the last month of 2021. A lot of our adjustments would never have happened without our awesome pre-order community testing week in and week out and delivering the best feedback in the business. A huge shout out and thank you to our testers!

From design adjustments to balancing the early experience to launching new YouTube content, we were very busy during December. First of all I’d like to introduce you to a slew of new game footage to be found over on our YouTube channel. We worked very hard over the last couple of months to bring you our Official Game Trailer, some gameplay footage, a preview of our character creator, and some longer form content. Please head over to our YouTube channel, subscribe, and enjoy some new game footage of Embers Adrift if you haven’t already watched it. We’ll continue to add new content as we head further into 2022.

Combat and progression had a lot of work done in December with iterations that moved the first 6 abilities a player learns from what was once the first 20 levels down to 10, and the option to choose your specialization has been moved down to level 6… crazy, I know, but this feels so much more rewarding!

Our abilities have not only been shifted around in when they get unlocked, but they’ve been given a boost in power. They are feeling much more impactful and can really turn the tide of battle. If you haven’t logged in in a while you should come check out how the first 10 levels feel and let us know your thoughts.

Combat has seen some cool new features added as well. We have implemented position bonuses. Now, depending on where you’re attacking your enemy from (face-to-face, flanking from the side, or attacking from behind) you’ll receive different bonuses not only depending on your chosen role, but also depending on which weapon you’re using.

Reagents have become a big part of using you’re combat abilities. These can be crafted, purchased from a merchant, or found as loot in the field and they have been a lot of fun… chuckles and mutters something about a “homemade irritant.”

We’ve been hard at work getting new animations into the game as well as new creatures. Male and female anims have been touched up and a few creatures we’ve been dying to get into the game have seen their animations wrapped up. Our design team is implementing new content every day and while we won’t showcase all our content before launch we are getting closer to opening up more large spaces for our testers to explore. Fear not, our team is hard at work giving the game more content and depth. Our testers have barely scratched the surface.

Our character creator has seen a slew of new features added. From mustaches and make-up, to war-paint and complexions. We really enjoyed the last iteration of our new character creation, but it just keeps getting better and better (psst… you can now edit your character appearance in the login scene anytime you want by right-clicking on your character).

All the feedback from the testers has been extremely helpful and our community has been very excited about what Embers Adrift is bringing to the genre. As I mentioned before the servers will be open every weekend going forward. If you haven’t taken the plunge yet, but you’re interested in the experience we have to offer we’d love to have you join us. We understand that buying into a pre-launch game isn’t for everyone though, as it involved feedback, iteration, and character wipes. Nonetheless we appreciate you following along with our development and will see you when we launch later this year. In the meantime, if you would like to support us and our launch we would greatly appreciate it; visit our store to pre-order or purchase for a friend today! Thanks for following our development; our small indie team really appreciates your support and interest!

Join our discord server to share your feedback & ideas, and to interact with the dev team & community, and then head over to our forums to dive deep into the news, lore, and discussions about Embers Adrift. If you don’t have a previous account, please sign up!

If you’ve pre-ordered a Stormhaven Studios product before that means you already have alpha testing access to Embers Adrift and we’d love to see you in game and in our discord on Wednesday nights at 8pm Central and any other time our servers are open. Your account has been carried over to our new website where you can download the client from the account page after logging in.
