I'm really struggling to try to log in with all the seasonal decorations that have been added with the patch update. Is there any way to disable them? When will they end?

I've been sitting here just staring at my computer for hours, seriously considering not logging back in until they're gone.

The decorations are really only found on login, Newhaven Valley, and Newhaven City. Is there something in particular you are having trouble with? They will last through October and have been a tradition since launch to celebrate our anniversary.

I absolutely despise seasonal events. They're incredibly tacky and immersion-breaking. I guess I'll log back in after October.

Are you fighting in Newhaven Valley? If you are past that then you wont see them in game.

I mean, they're already in the login screen and the city, areas I have to see multiple times a day when I play. But also, the character limit increased, and I just made 3 more characters, so, yeah, I was planning to spend time in NHV.

To be honest, I thought it was just the login and the city and already stopped playing. Now you're telling me it's in even more areas?

I tried to login a second time but immediately logged out when I accidentally got too close to the ember ring, and it spit out confetti at me.

A major point of this game to me is that it DOESN'T have the pandering, flashy, cosmetic, temporary BS other games have, but it seems, like with bloops (that I have intentionally avoided), that's the direction it wants to go.

NHV has some turnip heads along the road. The decorations there are minimal.

None of this impacts gameplay or is permanent. We do it once a year to celebrate our anniversary with everyone for helping us get this far.

This is not an argument. I hate it, and it makes me want to not play. So, I won't be playing.
I wasn't making an argument; I was simply stating the reason for it existing. And I'm sorry you dislike it; it will all be gone before you know it.

I really like 95% of the things you post but I'm struggling to get my head around why this is such an aversion for you.

It's simply to enjoy the anniversary.
They are just models in a game to celebrate a game specific event.

Personally I love it, but I accept these things are very subjective.

My character can't craft while in torch stance because my hand is busy holding a torch, but they can rig an ember ring to shoot out confetti whenever somebody gets near it? How did they do that? Where's all the confetti coming from? Did the academy do alchemy research to be able to make infinite confetti bombs?

It's very clearly Halloween. Why are the residents of Newhaven City celebrating Halloween? Calling it something else in game is just a lazy veneer. It's the real world bleeding into the game. People like holidays, so the game is making a holiday for the players. It breaks immersion.

Every single time I see a Halloween decoration, I'm reminded that the game is pandering to the players instead of being true to the game world. I'm reminded that Newhaven isn't a real place but a bunch of bits on a server subject to the whims of the people controlling it. Like when a GM spawns a bunch of random enemies to entertain a crowd, it's breaking down the integrity of the game world for some base, instant gratification.

Just like when an otherwise good show does a Christmas episode, it cheapens the whole experience.

I understand your perspective now, thanks.
I don't agree with it, but I understand it.

From my perspective, these guys work their arse off to provide this game, and they 100% deserve to enjoy having an anniversary experience.
I have not seen the confetti yet, and I get it suspends your belief, but it sounds like fun.

To me, life is too short to be upset by such things, but that's your decision to make, not mine.

Yes I know its a little off topic, but I'm going to link my favourite Christmas Song.
It makes me cry every single time.
Life really is too short to not try to be happy whenever you can.
Perhaps you will see the connection, perhaps it's too cryptic.
You be the judge.

agree to disagree
Again, this isn't an argument. I'm not trying to convert anyone.

Also, I don't think you actually get it. Your responses are very dismissive. For instance, calling it "100% immersion" is both completely inaccurate and makes it sound like an unrealistically high expectation.

Regardless, I was just trying to answer questions or implied questions. I definitely don't want to talk about this anymore either.

Appreciate the discussion everyone! Closing this thread to avoid things going haywire at a later date.
