Windows 10 not shutting down after Embers Adrift Launcher has run

Daikano

Since I installed Embers Adrift, I have been experiencing a failure of windows to shut down when I attempt to do so. Task Host is shutting down background applications is all that is displayed. If I just wait, eventually the computer will go to sleep from inactivity. If I click the 'shut down anyway' button it shuts down fine, forcing the shut-down.

So I did some testing. If I boot up the computer and launch chrome, everquest, or whatever, it shuts down fine. If I launch the EA patcher/launcher, and close it via the X in the corner, I experience this problem.
This registry param1 points to the AppID in the classes root for WinInetBrokerServer

@Daikano - I was wondering if you get these errors if you right-click the launcher and run as admin. That aside, Event ID usually has to do with the software and reporting it here is a good idea. I haven’t had this issue, but I’m running Windows 11, have all the latest updates drivers, and run a PC clean regularly.

Couple things to try:

1. Windows Updates.
2. Driver updates (you should have an app from your PC/Laptop manufacturer to get them all up-to-date).
3. Graphics Driver Updates (sometimes separate from manufacturer/motherboard updates). Consider a “clean” install.
4. Computer cleaning software is something I always use, something that cleans your registry (which is sometimes the culprit for DCOM). I use CCleaner, but I also configure it to not run in the background and I don’t fall for any tricks to install the paid version (and don’t let it install Google Chrome, unless you want it).

I have no experienced this on my local windows 10 box, nor have we gotten this report from others. I wonder if something funky is going on with your graphics driver?

I’ll download and install the latest nvidia package and see if it corrects the problem. I’m running the most current windows updates so it’s possible there’s something new from Nvidia.

@Battlestorm i appreciate the ideas but it is a new laptop with no bloatware. I keep my system clean. Windows updates are current but the nvidia game ready driver is a little out of date. I’m traveling this week so the limited time for troubleshooting but will keep the devs posted since the launcher cause 1 blue screen in the previous build as well.

Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with Windows 10 not shutting down after running Embers Adrift Launcher. That's definitely frustrating. Have you tried reaching out to the EA support team to see if they can help troubleshoot the issue?
In the meantime, if you're on Win10 and haven't activated it yet, be sure to check out the windows 10 product key reddit. They've got some great deals on legit keys if you're looking to save some cash. Also, there you might find someone who had a similar issue. Maybe they can help you.
