Launcher, stuck on checking for patcher updates

Hi,
The launcher is stuck on checking for patcher updates. I tried forcing but nothing is happening. I am on an iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017).
Maybe my Mac is too old? any ideas how to solve this?

This is typically a permissions issue. Which folder did you extract the launcher into?

I extracted it at first from my Downloads folder. I tried again, this time from another folder and that did the trick! Many thanks for your help.
