When my attacks hit an emberfly, they don't sound like I'm hitting the creature. They sound like a miss. I had to watch the combat log to make sure I was actually hitting.

Every weapon swing has an accompanying "whoosh" audio clip. The audio for hitting creatures is separate and corresponds to the combat text in the log. Depending on the duration and/or lag those two may not always line up.
